Campus safety through anonymous, real-time incident reporting

University campuses lacked a trustworthy way for students to report incidents in real time. Existing school apps acted as digital handbooks with tips after the fact, not tools that increased transparency when students needed them most.
Speer built Podd — a campus safety app where students report incidents anonymously and notify peers on a live map. Reports are vetted before release, balancing student safety with community transparency.
The name Podd comes from "peas in a pod," reflecting the community-first design. Students verify with school email, select their campus, and receive real-time notifications during high-risk periods.
After a two-week beta at Ryerson University, Podd surfaced reporting trends across high-traffic intersections and orientation periods — insight schools could not see through email-only workflows.
Podd expanded to 20+ Ontario schools on iOS and Android. The product is now part of Speer's portfolio history as an example of community safety technology built in Toronto.

Podd increased community involvement and transparency so students could report experiences comfortably while keeping peers informed in real time.
